Like many popular designers from Brazil, José Zanine Caldas is known for working in rich woods from the South American nation’s rain forests. This Dining Table dated to the 1970’s, exemplifies the organic yet sleek aesthetic of contemporary Brazilian design. Jose Zanine’s range of production encompasses many of the trends that shaped Brazilian design over the latter half of the 20th century. From sculptural production pieces in sinuously hand cut plywood to beautifully raw seating and tables hand carved from massive hardwoods to stunning homes designed and built in his unique vernacular without any formal degree in architecture, Zanine created his reputation as the “Renaissance man” of Brazilian modernism.
