Designed by Jens Risom (1941). Date of Manufacture: 1941-1960
Materials: Spruce frame with leather webbing. The lounge arm chair is part of a series Risom completed as the first designer commissioned by Hans Knoll. The design of the chair is the result of a 4 month trip Risom and Knoll took across the United States to understand what architects and designers were looking for in contemporary furniture. Discarded parachute straps were used on the original chairs due to the wartime limitations on materials.
This classic design remains a striking and modern piece in the 21st Century. Nowadays, the Risom Collection chairs are constructed of simple woods and natural cotton webbing. Each chair comes stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Jens Risom’s signature. Available with or without arms. Many knock-offs are available from other manufacturers, such as Ikea for example.
