A Caribbean carved mahogany Planter’s chair, probably from the West Indies, the canted caned back joined by scrolled arms, on down swept curved legs. As popular as the Cuban/Mexican Campeche is the West Indian Planter’s chair referred throughout the Caribbean as a “Lazy Man’s chair” or simply “Lazy chair”. The West Indian variety developed as a result of the influence of the Dutch and English colonies in the Spice Islands and India.
